Steel fiber solutions affordable options for using rebar

The challenge

The original design of the property’s floor incorporated the use of large quantities of rebar. However, with increasing pressure on both construction schedule and costs, Anatolia Capital was looking for an alternative solution that would both increase the speed of construction and reduce project costs, thus increasing the potential profitability from this real estate development.

The solution

The Bekaert team worked closely with the designer and flooring contractor. Together they came up with a solution using Dramix® 3D 55/60 BG steel fibers to replace the originally specified rebar. By eliminating the labor-intensive installation of rebar, the speed of construction accelerated. The steel fiber solution also proved to be significantly less expensive than using rebar, as it allowed for a reduction in the thickness of the concrete floor.

The Dramix® 3D 55/60BL was used at a dosage of 25 kg/m³ and the slab thickness was eight inches. The result is a high-performance interior floor suitable for a variety of demanding end uses.
