As part of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) Phase II, Package CTP-14 features a critical railway tunnel reinforced with Dramix® steel fibers. Permanent Spray Concrete Lining (PSCL) was adopted to deliver speed, safety, and long-term durability under heavy freight loads.
The tunnel demanded a robust lining system capable of handling heavy freight loading, complex geology, and large cross-sections. Traditional rebar cages would have slowed construction and created congestion. Quality consistency, schedule adherence, and worker safety were key challenges in this major freight corridor project.
Package CTP-14 adopted Permanent Spray Concrete Lining (PSCL) using Dramix® 4D 65/35 BG steel fibers to strengthen the tunnel lining. The design used C32/40 concrete with thicknesses ranging from 225 mm to 430 mm. Fiber dosages of 25 kg/m³ and 35 kg/m³ were applied based on performance requirements. Dramix® provided three-dimensional reinforcement, superior crack control, and post cracking toughness, reducing the need for dense rebar cages. This improved placement, accelerated construction cycles, and enhanced durability under heavy freight loads. Local manufacture of Dramix® in India ensured uninterrupted supply and consistent quality, supporting smooth execution of this landmark freight project.
