As part of the 63.1 km Bhanupali–Bilaspur–Beri railway line, Package P-1 included seven tunnels totaling 3.5 km. Passing through mixed geology of sand, stone, and soft rock, the tunnels adopted Dramix® steel fiber CIP linings to ensure durability and efficiency in challenging conditions.
The tunnels traversed varying geology including sand, stone, and soft rock, which posed stability and excavation challenges. Conventional reinforcement would have required heavy rebar placement, slowing progress. Remote Himalayan terrain and consistent lining quality across seven tunnels added further complexity.
Package P-1 adopted cast-in-place tunnel linings reinforced with Dramix® 3D 80/60 BG steel fibers. With a thickness of 0.35 m, C30/37 concrete, and a dosage of 45 kg/ m³, the solution was applied across all seven tunnels (3.5 km total). Dramix® fibers improved crack control, ductility, and durability, while eliminating the need for dense rebar cages in soft and mixed ground conditions. This accelerated construction, simplified logistics, and ensured consistent lining quality across multiple tunnel faces. Local manufacture of Dramix® in India secured reliable supply and performance, making it a cost efficient and robust solution for RVNL’s first package in this line.
