In Chennai, South India, the world’s largest solar panel manufacturer, First Solar, established a facility covering a floor area of 200,000 m² and featuring 60,000 m² of roads. Tata Projects Limited was the general contractor for the project, and Dramix® 3D and 4D steel fibers were used for the floors and outdoor pavements, respectively.
The project presented a significant challenge, namely a tight deadline. The team had only nine months to complete the entire project, with plans to hand over the site in just 60 days. Additionally, another challenge was the payment terms, with a minimum of 90 days demanded from applicators.
The team ensured an uninterrupted supply of Dramix® steel fibers from the factory, even on weekends, and supported the supply from local warehouses at times of last-minute demand. Tata Projects Limited expressed high satisfaction with the team’s rapid response to material supply. Further, Dramix® steel fiber reinforcement bypasses the need to cut, tie and form rebar, saving a lot of construction time. Finally, the team extended its credit period to 90 days to satisfy the flooring contractors, enabling them to deliver a minimum of 2000 m² per day.
As a result, the floors of the Linder facility reinforced with Dramix® 3D are highly resistant to impact and abrasion. By eliminating rebar, accelerating the speed of construction, and using less concrete, project costs were reduced by around 30%. Moreover, by reducing the amount of concrete used, the project met Linder’s sustainability objectives with the project.
