Located in the Qingpu District of Shanghai, the Ning’an Fresh Food Industrial Park is a state-of-the-art cold storage facility with a total construction area of 40,000 m². As the largest cold storage market in China, Shanghai serves as an ideal location for this project, which is designed to meet the growing demand for efficient and reliable frozen food storage solutions. The park features a two-story structure, with a primary focus on maintaining temperatures at -20°C.
Operating a cold storage facility at extremely low temperatures presents unique challenges, especially concerning the durability and maintenance of the floor. Any damage to the floor after the facility becomes operational would be costly and difficult to repair. Therefore, the initial design and construction of the floor needed to be optimized to ensure long-term resilience and minimal maintenance.
A customized flooring design was created, catering to the specific needs of different areas.
For the shelving area, a 12m x 12m saw-cut floor with Dramix® steel fibers was used, offering optimal support for heavy storage racks and minimizing cracking risks. In the transit and loading/unloading area, a jointless combi slab integrating Dramix® 4D steel fibers with rebar was installed to ensure smooth forklift movement. A combi slab for steel deck was also designed to enhance structural stability.
This project exemplifies the power of collaboration and innovation in addressing complex industrial challenges. By combining Bekaert’s expertise with Kunshan Vokor’s construction excellence, the project achieved a flooring solution that meets the highest standards of durability, functionality, and sustainability.
