For the raft foundation of a large industrial warehouse in Riyadh, the client sought a system ensuring structural performance with better sustainability and faster construction. Bekaert’s hybrid of Dramix® 4D fibers and steel bars cut carbon, optimized materials, and improved labor efficiency.
With soaring summer temperatures and an urgent construction schedule, the client needed a raft reinforcement approach that offered durability, lower embodied carbon, faster execution, and easier site handling—while adhering to crack width control and structural codes for an industrial-scale facility.
The Bekaert Dramix® team collaborated with the structural consultant to engineer a hybrid raft foundation combining steel bars with 4D 80/60 BGE steel fibers. This design reduced steel density while maintaining performance requirements. Dramix® fibers were dosed directly into the concrete mix, simplifying logistics, increasing placement speed, and reducing rebar labor. Using proprietary software and EPD benchmarks, the team demonstrated 36% lower carbon emissions, 50% labor time savings, and improved site safety. The design was approved by the owner and executed successfully on-site, meeting sustainability, speed, and structural goals
